Find Gems by Color

There are many gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley and more continue to be added as new paid expansions join the game. Looking for specific gems has been made easier with the in-game Collections menu. However, the recent Star Paths tend to ask you to mine gems by color. Now finding gems becomes a bit more of a guessing game. So, to help things along, here are the gems in Dreamlight Valley, Eternity Isle, and Storybook Vale, by color and where to find them.

Black Gems

Onyx is the only black gem in the game, as of now.

It is, however, a random find when mining in any mining spot in Dreamlight Valley, Eternity Isle or Storybook Vale.

Blue Gems

Although there are several blue gems, some of the more recent Star Paths are asking for a narrower selection. They want just “light blue” or “dark blue” gems.

When you need only Light Blue gems, pick Aquamarine. Sapphire and Star Sapphire, on the other hand, fall under the Dark Blue gem category, as does (we assume) Blue Zircon.

Aquamarine

  • Dazzle Beach (Dreamlight Valley)
  • Forest of Valor (Dreamlight Valley)

Blue Zircon

  • Lagoon-Wild Tangle (Eternity Isle)

Sapphire

  • Vitalys Mines-Sunlit Plateau (Dreamlight Valley).

Star Sapphire

  • Everafter (Storybook Vale)

Vitalys Crystals are also found in the Gems Collection menu and are blue. They, however, don’t always qualify as blue gems for the Star Paths. Still, it’s always worth checking, because… sometimes they do!

Peridot

  • Peaceful Meadow (Dreamlight Valley).

Orange Gems

The number of Orange Gems available in Disney Dreamlight Valley increased significantly with the addition of the paid expansions. Here are all the orange gem locations.

Citrine

  • Glade of Trust (Dreamlight Valley)
  • Sunlit Plateau (Dreamlight Valley)

Bumblestone

  • Borderlands-Glittering Dunes (Eternity Isle)

Evergem

  • Ruins-Ancient’s Landing (Eternity Isle)

Magma

  • Mythopia (Storybook Vale)

Some of the early Star Paths were very liberal with their colors and allowed Topaz to also qualify as an Orange Gem. But in later Star Paths, Topaz was firmly placed in the Yellow Gem category and no longer counted.

Still, if you need Orange Gems, it never hurts to check.

Diamonds fall under the Gems by Color category of White Gems. They are only found in Dreamlight Valley and only in the Forgotten Lands.

  • Forgotten Lands (Dreamlight Valley)

While we suspect Opals and Pure Ice will also be considered White Gems, as of this publication, we have not been able to confirm this. Still, we will include them here for now.

Yellow Gems

When a task specifically calls out a Yellow Gem, you want to mine Topaz.

If you need a lot of Topaz, it’s really nice to have the various paid expansions. Topaz can be found in a lot more places if you do!

Gems by Color Duties

The Frost & Fairies Star Path, arriving on December 4, 2024, has a lot of duties that call for Gems by color.

In some cases, you are only mining for one color. However, in the later Star Path Duties, several colors can fill the requirement. While this would seem to make things faster, the quantity of gems you need to mine increases significantly for the multiple color gem Star Path Duties.

Here is just a sample of what you’ll see in the Frost & Fairies Star Path.

  • Star Path Duty 42: Mine for red gems – 10 required
  • Star Path Duty 84: Mine for red or blue gems – 30 required
  • Star Path Duty 94: Mine for green or orange gems – 30 required

Mine More Gems

There are a lot of mining spots in Dreamlight Valley, Eternity Isle and Storybook Vale. Still, if you want to speed up your mining experience, and have the Dreamlight to spare, try using Miracle Pickaxe Polish.

To make this helpful polish, head to your favorite crafting station. You will find the recipe under Potion & Enchantment.

Once applied to your pickaxe, mining spots that contain gems, including the Vitalys Crystals which are used to make the potion, are likely to produce extra ones.

The Miracle Pickaxe Polish lasts for 10 swings of your pickaxe, sort of. You get a free swing at each mining spot. (see the Pro Tip below for additional information)

Miracle Pickaxe Polish Crafting Recipe: (10 Uses)

  • 10 Vitalys Crystal
  • 5 Onyx
  • 500 Dreamlight

If you want the magic to last longer, craft the Even More Miraculous Pickaxe Polish. Although it takes a lot of Dreamlight, this version of the polish gives you 25 swings of the pickaxe, plus 1 free swing at each mining spot.

Even More Miraculous Pickaxe Polish Crafting Recipe: (25 Uses)

  • 20 Vitalys Crystal
  • 10 Onyx
  • 1000 Dreamlight

Enjoy your mining experience in the Vitalys Mines!

Pro Tip: Once you apply either pickaxe polish, our tests showed that you get one “free” swing at each Mining Spot. In our experience, it was the last swing. In other words, if it takes 5 swings to break the Mining spot, only 4 of the swings will “use up” some of the pickaxe polish.
