Your story begins as you decide to leave the city and head for a place where you can take a pause from life’s responsibilities. You end up at a small cottage in the woods. It’s a familiar place from your childhood.

Strolling into the woods, you find yourself at a spot you used to frequent as a child. The place reminds you of a time when life was simpler, and imagination could make all your dreams come true.

Sitting down to rest near a tree in the peaceful woods, you start to recall all the long-lost dreams of the past…and drift off to sleep.

Suddenly, you find yourself being transported away from the Woods. You materialize right in front of Merlin, in a place that is strange, yet vaguely familiar. You’ve arrived in Dreamlight Valley, and it appears that Merlin has been waiting for you!

It’s night in the Valley, a strange contrast to the daylight of the woods you just left. After introduction are made, Merlin declares that you are the very person that will Save Dreamlight Valley and fills you in on the story of the Forgetting. In the telling, he keeps, well, forgetting what he was about to say. A real and sobering example of how the Forgetting is affecting the Valley.

He tells the tale of how Dreamlight Valley used to be a cheerful place with lots of Happy Villagers. They had a good Ruler who helped life in the valley flourish with their magic. Then one day, the Ruler vanished, the sky turned dark, and the Village started to become infested with the horrid “Night Thorns”. That’s when the Forgetting began. The Villager’s memories started to fade, and the Valley became a shadow of its’ former self. The more Night Thorns that appeared, the more clouded the Villagers memories became.

Merlin, being a most powerful wizard with the ability to see into the future, knew that someone, someday, would come to save the Valley. With that in mind, he and some of the Villagers tried to save their Memories. Unfortunately, he can no longer recall much more than that.

Curious about the Ruler, you ask Merlin to elaborate. Happy to oblige, he explains that all the wonder, magic, and friendship in the Valley came from the Ruler. They watched over the Village and kept the Villagers safe from Dark Magic. Then suddenly, the Ruler started acting strange and simply vanished. How long they’ve been gone or why they left, has been forgotten.

Merlin is absolutely certain that you are the one who will save Dreamlight Valley. You still have some doubts but are certainly willing to try. Especially if it means you may be able to use Magic. How cool is that!!

To test his theory, Merlin asks you to use your magic to remove the Night Thorns on the lawn around you.
