It should come as no surprise, that bringing Jack to Dreamlight Valley would send his curiosity into overdrive. Jack has so many questions and is determined to find some of the answers. The Pumpkin King loves to do scientific research and experiment. But to do that in Dreamlight Valley, he requires a place to work and the proper equipment.

Jack found a room that might be perfect for a lab. It’s inside a cave in the Sunlit Plateau. He comes to you to see what you think.

Not surprising, the room Jack found is your special room in the Vitalys Mines. Since you’ve used that same room as a lab in the past, you have to agree that it’s a great place to run experiments. It’s also fairly secluded, which is ideal if something Jack works on goes awry.

The room meets practically all of Jack’s needs. The only exception is the equipment. He still needs his own Scientific Kit. With a little guidance on what he’s looking for, it should be simple enough to craft.

You head off to gather the materials and put your crafting skills to work. A perfect Scientific Kit coming up. It is a Kit fit for a King.

Quest Task: Gather the following materials:

• Softwood – 12
• Coal Ore – 8
• Empty Vial – 4
• Fabric – 3
• Iron Ingot – 3

While you are busy gathering materials and crafting away, Jack is talking to Merlin. It appears they have a common interest and started comparing notes on several scientific topics. Ask Jack about them if you dare.

Quest Task: Make sure you have the Scientific Kit in your Inventory.

Merlin and Jack also discussed about the Night Shards that are appearing in Dreamlight Valley. This has caught Jack’s attention, and he wants to perform some experiments with them. Since you are the one who digs up the Night Shards, Jack comes to you to get a few for his research.

Warning Jack, several times, that he needs to be careful, Night Shards are filled with Dark Magic after all, you relent. Giving Jack a few should, theoretically, be ok. Right? You may even have some in your inventory chests that he can use.

Quest Task: Gather some Night Shards – 6

Quest Task: Head inside the Vitalys Mines.

After gathering the 6 requested Night Shards, you head back into the Vitalys Mines to deliver them to Jack.

Jack is all excited. He has just had a breakthrough in his experiments. He hustles the Night Shards off to be crushed to powder. A little of this, a little of that and ta-dah!

Oh NO!

Quest Task: Make sure you have the Night Shards in your inventory – 6.

A Giant Night Thorn! No! You need to get rid of it, but it’s Giant!! Maybe Merlin has an idea!

No more magical ingredients for you, Jack!!

Luckily, Merlin has a potion that should get rid of Jack’s “Science Project”. It’s one of the four potions he has in his study.

Hmm.. He’s doesn’t remember exactly which one of the four it is… The wrong one will make things worse…There were notes… But…

Oh, well, things to do, things to do. He’s gotta go. He’s sure you can figure it out… Good luck! Bye!

Quest Task: Talk to Merlin.

Quest Task: Find each potion in Merlin’s library.

You return to the Vitalys Mines with the four potions you found in Merlin’s study. Their labels give you a clue to which one to use.

Merlin did say that the correct potion would be the opposite of a Night Thorn. The old adage “It’s Night and Day” may come in handy here.

Quest Task: Merlin said that the correct potion is the opposite of a Night Thorn — place the right one on the Giant Night Thorn.

It took a few moments for the potion to work, but Merlin was right! The Giant Night Thorn was reduced to a Night Thorn Sprout!

Giving Jack the Night Thorn Sprout may not be the wisest thing you’ve ever done but do it you did.

All the Dark Magic does appear to be gone, so it should be safe in Jack’s hands. Only time will tell.
