Disney Dreamlight Valley Showcase Breakdown

The Disney Dreamlight Valley team created a showcase video, which went live on November 1st with some really exciting updates for the game that are coming at the end of 2023 and heading into 2024.

The Showcase introduced us to various members of the development and management team from Disney Dreamlight Valley, who provided updates. We’ll walk through each of their updates below and highlight our favorites.

We have all the information from their video here, so if video isn’t your thing, you can get caught up on all the information below. However, hearing it from the source is always fun, so if you want to catch the Showcase, you can still find it on YouTube as of the writing of this blog post.

Don’t Miss Your Rewards!

Just for watching, the team provided two Gift Bundles as a thank you!

DDV Soundtrack

Courtney and Ryan from the Community Team provided the update.

Their Big Announcement: Disney Dreamlight Valley Video Game Soundtrack! You can Listen to the Soundtrack by following their QR Code (SEE BELOW!)

You will be able to access it on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube Music, and Deezer.

This is one of those things I didn’t know I’d need in my life and I haven’t decided either way yet. I have played the game so much at this point that the opening theme song has gotten rather annoying, but much of the other game music is actually really nice. However, if I find Woody’s carousel’s music on there, it’s game over.

Other talking points this team chatted about:

They stressed inclusivity within the communities and thanked the community members for their contributions in the form of suggestions and feedback. They also encouraged players who aren’t already involved in the social platforms to get involved, as they are really trying to bring players together.

The impressive use of the touch of magic tool was highlighted, especially the community’s ingenious use of rugs to create ponds, and the creation of tattoos from pieces of clothing. The Community Team was also quite impressed with the unique ways players use the existing decor to design and decorate their rooms, specifically when dedicating entire rooms to storage!

December 5, 2023 – Update 1.0

Rachel and Manea from the Game Team provided the next update about Update 1.0. This includes several major game enhancements that will launch at the same time as the Winter Star Path.

It is also going to be the largest patch and improvement update to date. This is both a cause for excitement and concern, as things tend to break when they do major updates, but I’m hoping for the best.

Keep reading. There is a lot to this update.

The Winter Star Path

Jack Skellington is coming to the Valley!

Exciting news for Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas fans. Jack Skellington is coming to the valley this winter as part of the Winter Star Path! He will be a villager with the same playability as all of our previous villagers, with the ability to level him up, hang out with him, and assisting you with tasks such as fishing, mining and gardening.

Does anyone use a helper for gathering or digging anymore? I have someone assigned to each activity but don’t use them. Just curious if that’s just me.

New Pretty Dresses

Per Rachel, the DDV Community Manager, another big announcement for the Winter Star Path is that it comes with at least one “iconic winter Disney Princess look” (her words) including one for our favorite book loving princess!

Multiplayer Mode

Players have been wondering about the elusive Multiplayer mode for months and we are finally getting some detals!

Multiplayer is coming in the form of…wait for it…ValleyVerse, Dreamlight Valley’s very own Multiplayer mode! (Um, yeah Marvel fans, you did read that correctly. And yeah, I’m not sure if it is cute or eyeroll-worthy either.)

There are some interesting features coming with the ValleyVerse, beyond just being able to show off your really impressive islands. The first that comes to mind is being able to share items with your friends. According to Manea, Game Manager, you will be able to give other players items and resources. He specifically mentioned being able to give items that would help other players out with quests. It’s unclear if there will be limitations on what we can give to our visitors.

Another fun feature is that we get to visit Scrooge’s store in other players’ Valleys. This is one area that they could have, and should have, given more details, as many Dreamlight Valley players come from Animal Crossing, which had a few challenges in they way things were done in the shops. A few questions that immediately came to mind were: Do I need to do my shopping before letting anyone visit so my friends don’t buy the things I need? Can my friends order items form my Scrooge? If so, do I get a referral fee? (Okay, that’s the business owner in me coming out.) But seriously, I do hope they have put some thought into the quality of life mechanics around how that is going to work rather than just copying Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Manea mentioned that this update is just the beginning of the multiplayer world that they are creating. There is more to come!

DDV is Leaving Early Access

At the same time as the launch of the Winter Star Path, known as update 1.0, Disney Dreamlight Valley will also be leaving Early Access.

Early access was launched on September 6, 2022 for players who were willing to put up with and report on the glitches, challenges and crashes that came with testing the game on behalf of Gameloft. They never called their early access players testers, but that’s what we were and we all knew it. As a thank you, we were able to purchase exclusive Founders packages with special outfits and decor. Those packages are available until Nov 4, 2023 and then will go away for good, or so we’re being told. In the end, yes we paid them to be testers for the game, which is becoming more and more of an industry standard.

The team stressed that up to this point, they have spent a lot of time with the community learning what they want and don’t want from a quality of life and playability standpoint.

To be fair, I’ve been playing since week one of the game launch and they have been extremely responsive to the feedback, if not always quick to roll things out. I’m married to a software engineer, so I understand that updates and fixes take time, so that’s not meant as a jab at them.

The community has been rather harsh at times, and even through that, Gameloft has kept going, delivering extensive updates, frequent hotfixes, and quality of life improvements. If there is any complaint that I do have, it goes back to the users being their testers. It would have been nice if they had done better testing before rolling out updates so that the players don’t suddenly have broken or stalled games for months on end. It gets old having a major glitch or insane number of crashes after every new update. I’m hoping that with the end of Early Access, players start getting treated as players and not free labor.

For early access players, regardless of what tier they purchased or when, they will be getting a thank you gift from Gameloft for their loyalty and assistance. They will receive a Flowery Summer Cottage House Style, Artist’s Overalls Costumes, and Flowery Capybara Animal Companion AND 2500 moonstones!

The Story Arc for The Forgotten is Only Act 1

An almost side note before transitioning to a new topic, it was mentioned that as part of the conclusion of early access, the developers wanted to ensure that the Forgotten’s story arc came to a nice conclusion.

What’s to come in 2024?

The team is keeping this pretty quiet but gave us a little bit to work with.

Mike and Sulley from Monster’s INC are coming to the Valley as villagers!

Also confirmed, but not actually surprising, is that each update includes a new Star Path with exclusive content prizes.

My favorite of the announcements for the base game is that Disney Princess Tiana from the Princess and the Frog is coming to the Valley in Summer of 2024, and she is bringing some new culinary delights with her! I’ve always liked her can-do no BS personality.

Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift In Time (Paid Expansion)

Welcome to Eternity Isle – Disney Dreamlight Valley’s First Expansion.

Jafar has been hanging out in a strange new island, Eternity Isle, trying to uncover some very special magical artifacts. As things do in a good story, his plan goes awry, and he has messed with space and time (hmm…I’m seeing another Marvel parallel here). When you arrive, Jafar decides you are his “diamond in the rough” (their joke, not mine), and recruits you to fix the issue.

The expansion brings new biomes on a new island, new characters, a new magic tool, new story, new ingredients, new recipes, the list goes on! (And expanded on below.)

It will roll out in three parts, with part one launching with the December 5, 2023 1.0 Update.

Part 2 is scheduled for Spring 2024.

Part 3 is schedule for Summer 2024.

NEW Royal Tool

Let’s explore the new features of this expansion!

As part of the storyline, you will gain a new Royal Hourglass tool that lets you repair time, find objects and fix the dangers that come up in the new world. With this incredible new tool we will be able to find hidden treasure on both Eternity Isle and Dreamlight Valley AND in realms within the Dream Castle that have been “lost in time”. It appears as if this tool is going to be one where we activate it in an area and it pulls a treasure chest or hidden item out of the ground.

NEW Villagers

As part of any new story, we get some new villagers and this time, these are some we have been waiting a long time for.

Eve, Wall-E’s love interest, has been hanging out in Ancient’s Landing taking care of the Royal Hourglass for the former ruler.

Gaston, from Beauty and the Beast, has been ship wrecked in the Glittering Dunes. (Unless they’ve given him a personality transplant, he can stay there. Belle deserves so much better than his annoying ego.)

Rapunzel has been hanging out in the jungle biome, the Wild Tangle (possibly named for her hair?) happily hanging out without her mother. She will be an important part of helping you with your Quest.

Each of the three new characters will have their own line of friendship quests and with that comes new clothes and decorations!

A fun note is that the new characters will be able to move to Dreamlight Valley and villagers from Dreamlight Valley can move to Eternity Isle. This means that Wall-E and Eve can finally be together! Yay!

NEW Island Areas

Eternity Isle comes with three new zones. Combined they are about the size of the original Valley, so there will be lots of space to explore and eventually decorate!

The big question that came to mind was object count, and they answered that quickly in the video by letting us know that the area comes with it’s own object count completely separate from the original valley! Yay!

Ancient’s Landing – Formerly occupied by an ancient civilization, it’s a massive port town that has been left in ruins. Players will explore the story of this formerly thriving location, learn about the experiments that were run, the machines that were created and the goods that were exchanged there.

The second and third areas are actually one massive location that have been split in two by the shenanigans that Jafar has been up to.

The Glittering Dunes is a dessert environment similar of that from Aladdin with cacti, quicksand, and deserted ruins.

The Wild Tangle is a luscious jungle environment that is green and vibrant.

Each Biome will come with new trees, plants and landscaping assets for players to use to enhance their islands. It was implied that all assets found on Eternity Isle will be available back on Dreamlight Valley for those who purchase the expansion.

The designers also said that they decided to play with more vertical areas in the Biomes this time, with twisting passages, hidden areas, and look outs over beautiful areas of the landscape. This is truly going to be a treasure hunt to find all the hidden areas and stuff within this new landscape!

NEW Extras

New critters are also on the way: Capybaras, Monkeys and Cobra Snakes – Um, yeah, snakes.

Ingredients are also expanding: New fruits and vegetables: strawberries (bush) and fantasy fig (tree).

Gathering: cinnamon

New Dishes coming our way: Poutine, Latkes, Biryani, and Arepas from Encanto.

New board game coming to the valley – Fast paced, strategic and accessible to all levels. You move characters across a chess or checkers style board to collect coins. At the end, whoever has the most coins is the winner of the game.

My favorite part…Ancient machines!

Automatic Watering Machine and Auto Cooker. Currency may be diamonds however! Yikes!
