Training for a New Role

Did you assign a role to a Villager when they first arrived in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and later wish you had given them a different role? If so, you are not alone. A lot of Disney Dreamlight Valley Gamers have done just that. But there is a simple solution. Give your Villager a little training, via a training manual, and they can take on a new role in no time at all! Here is how it works.

New Role Training Manuals

When Villagers reach Friendship Level 2, you are asked to assign them a role. These roles come in very handy. Whenever a Villager comes along (hangs out) with you on your daily adventures, they are able to assist you with any activities that relate to the role they are assigned.

The assistance the Villagers provide is in the form of giving you extra goodies. A Miner will toss extra gems or minerals at you when you mine. A gardener will toss out extra produce of whatever crop you are picking. You’ll get extra cherries when you forage for cherries. You get the idea.

When multiple Villagers have the same role, the number of extra goodies thrown by anyone with that role, that you buddy up with, increases. Keep that in mind as you gain more Villagers.

It is not uncommon to want to change some of the Villagers roles, as you progress through the game. This can be done fairly easily. Simply put together a Training Manual for the new role, using your crafting station, and give it to your Villager.

There is one restriction, however. Your Villager must be at Friendship Level 10 before they are able to accept any new role Training Manual. Still, once they reach Level 10, you can change their role as often as you like, simply by giving them a new Training Manual.

These are the various manuals available for you to craft.

  • Digging Training Manual
  • Fishing Training Manual
  • Foraging Training Manual
  • Gardening Training Manual
  • Mining Training Manual
  • Timebending Training Manual (A Rift in Time exclusive recipe)

A Day at Disney Star Path Duty #49

If you haven’t taken the time to experiment with making any of the Training Manuals, you get a chance to do just that when you reach Duty # 49 in A Day at Disney Star Path, which was released on May 1, 2024.

Duty # 49 of A Day at Disney Star Path asks you to “Craft books on training your Villagers”. Yes, it is plural. You need to craft 3 Training Manuals.

The good thing is that you can choose which manuals you want to craft. In fact, you can even craft 3 of the same manual. It’s entirely up to you and will likely depend as much on your resources as it will on what, if any, Villager’s roles you might like to change.

An interesting note on this Star Path Duty. You don’t actually have to “give” any of the manuals you craft to a Villager. You simply need to make them. Still, the manuals will very likely come in handy in the future, so keep that in mind as you decide how to complete this Star Path Duty.

For a list of all Star Path Duties, check out our Complete Guide to the A Day at Disney Star Path.

Learn the Digging Role

Let’s take a closer look at how to craft the individual Training Manuals, starting with the Digging Training Manual.

How to Craft a Digging Training Manual:

Head to a nearby crafting station.

The Digging Training Manual recipe is found under the Potion & Enchantment menu at your crafting station.

Digging Training Manual Recipe:

  • Dreamlight – 5000
  • Pebbles – 20
  • Sand – 20
  • Soil – 30

Give the Digging Training Manual to the Villager whose role you want to change. The new role will take place immediately, replacing whatever role the Villager had last.

Pro Tip: Although a Villager can only have one role at a time, you can change a Villager’s role as many times as you like. You can even switch them back to a role they had previously, simply by giving them the appropriate Training Manual.

Learn the Gardening Role

The gardening role is especially helpful for Villagers to have, in our opinion. Produce you grow and harvest is used for many different purposes. The obvious one is to simply eat for energy or combine at a cooking station to make various meals to sell or eat. Produce is also used in many non-food related crafting recipes and shows up as Villager’s favorite gifts.

With all these options for using what your gardens produce, it is very handy to buddy up with one of the Villagers with a Gardening Role whenever you decide to harvest them. You will end up with a much higher yield if you do!

It is noteworthy that your Gardening Buddy only throws out items that you grow. They do not throw extra items when you are harvesting from WALL-E’s garden.

So, if you need to train a few more Villagers to help with gardening, here is how to craft the Gardening Training Manual.

Learn the Timebending Role

The Timebending Role is a new role that can be assigned to a Villager, once you purchase A Rift in Time expansion. Even though the role originates with the addition of Eternity Isle, it can be assigned to any Villager from Dreamlight Valley or Eternity Isle.

The Opening of Eternity Isle

If you have purchased the expansion, A Rift in Time, you can take advantage of the fact that some of the resources you need are found there. If you haven’t opened all the areas containing these resources, here is a complete list of the quests and Mist amounts needed to do just that.

Quests needed to enter the Courtyard and cross the bridge to Glittering Dunes and Wild Tangle:

While you have immediate access to The Plains of Glittering Dunes and The Grasslands of Wild Tangle once you cross over the bridge from The Courtyard, all the other areas in Glittering Dunes and Wild Tangle require Mist to open. Here’s how much.

  • The Wastes (Glittering Dune) – 4000 Mist
  • The Overlook (Ancient’s Landing) – 6000 Mist
  • The Ruins, access through The Overlook (Ancient’s Landing) – 6000 Mist
  • The Promenade (Wild Tangle) – 6000 Mist
