You’re standing in front of a house in Dreamlight Valley and talking with Merlin. He is about to guide you through your first magic lesson.

There are Night Thorns blocking the entrance to the house door before you. Merlin believes you are the only one with the power to remove them. Here goes!!

Quest Task: Try to enter the House.

It worked! You have magic! Not only that, you were able to get rid of the Night Thorns blocking the entrance to the house. They just sort of melted away. Cool! Awesome! Now it’s time to take a peek inside the house.

The inside of the house is a bit run down. It looks like it’s been boarded up for some time. Night Thorns have started growing inside as well and there are so many, it’s impacting Merlin’s memories even more. Time to get rid of them.

Quest Task: Remove the Night Thorns from inside the House.

A Glowing Orb appeared as you removed the Night Thorns in the house. Merlin refers to the orb as a Memory. So, you recovered a Memory, that has to be good! Sounds like you really can help.

Quest Task: Investigate the glowing Orb using “A” (Switch controls).

Removing the Night Thorns and recovering the Memory is making a difference. Merlin has been able to remember a few more tidbits. He recalls leaving something important at the Dream Castle. Unfortunately, he doesn’t remember what.

Another memory also came back to him. The former Ruler left some Royal Tools behind. They are scattered throughout the Valley. According to Merlin, these tools will be very important for you to recover, as they will help you with what’s to come.

The first priority is to find the Royal Pickaxe. It was driven into … you guessed it… a stone. Hmm, the Pickaxe in the Stone. It lacks a bit of a ring don’t you think?

Oddly enough, it seems that no-one can lift the pickaxe from the stone. This sounds familiar. Yet, Merlin believes you can. He’s been right on this before, so why not try?

There are 3 other “Royal Tools” that have gone missing. A Shovel, a Watering Can, and a Fishing Rod. Cool – A Scavenger Hunt!

Since you agree to stick around, Merlin tells you that the House you just entered is now yours. It used to belong to the former Ruler. He also gives you a treasure chest, containing a few things to help you with the start your adventures.

Pro Tip: Two quests become available upon completion of Welcome to Dreamlight Valley. I personally recommend starting The Royal Tools first along with several other quests for Scrooge and Goofy. The Dream Castle Quest opens a whole new set of storylines which can benefit from having a few of the others completed.
