A Little Secret

About a week before I turned the big 4-0, I finally had it out with my boss. The situation had been escalating and when verbal abuse turned to more physical acts of showing anger in the office, (I did provide several warnings that this behavior was unacceptable), I finally walked out.

A bit surprised and lost, I sat with my mom and my husband playing Disney Dreamlight Valley while I processed what this meant for my family and our income.

My husband was so supportive. Yet, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that I had to finally take the reins of life and do something with my gifts rather than keep jumping from dead-end job to dead-end job because I wasn’t ready to tackle being an entrepreneur again. It’s a hell of a lot of work and can be very scary, especially as you first get up and running.

As I was creating a list of where all the damn gems are in the game and which biome has which resources, I realized that people actually get paid to do this kind of thing. I pondered it for a few minutes and in typical go-getter fashion, I bounced the idea off of my husband without any research. His response was immediate and surprised the hell out of me. “Do it.”

Fast Forward a Few Months

Now, it’s September and it has taken a lot more than what those, “you can have a profitable blog up and running in 3 days or less” articles say. However, at 40 I learned how to design a large company brand, build websites, take better photos, do better lighting, and record video on various different gaming consoles. I’ve also started to learn how to video edit, tackle the world of SEO and have started to dive deep into the insane realm of social media for business. I also wrote a book and a journal and hired a few team members to help because, damn there is a lot to this!

Most importantly I learned that by allowing myself to step into my gamer side and marry it with my 20 years of business experience, I had the ability to create a dream situation for myself and provide kick-ass content, support and products for my readers and clients.

The new website is launching in just a day or two, which is where you are going to see this blog, and I couldn’t be happier! My life, although way more intense than it was with my 9-5, is now happier, healthier, and more balanced than ever before. Every day I learn how to make it better. I’ll share my journey here with hopes of inspiring other gamers to take their love for gaming to the next level so you too can design that game, write that blog, stream that content, or hold that gaming event of your dreams.

Happy Gaming!
