A Wanderer of the Dunes

The bridge leading out of The Courtyard has been repaired and you can now access the Glittering Dunes of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Eternity Isle. It’s a vast place, with lots of twists and turns. It also has, is that Gaston?!

Behind the Splinters

Eternity Isle’s Glittering Dunes has much to see. There are all sorts of new plants and other interesting things to harvest. You even come across a sand waterfall. But most unexpected of all, is the figure you see standing behind a row of splinters of time.

It’s Gaston. What he’s doing on Eternity Isle is an interesting question. Removing the splinters of time, you approach. There’s only one way to find out. Might as well ask him.

Clearly Dehydrated

Talking to Gaston proves to be quite a challenge. He’s not making any sense. It appears he’s been wandering the dunes and is obviously dehydrated. It appears the first order of business is to get him something to eat and drink.

Quest Task: Gaston is clearly dehydrated. Find what he’s looking for around the Glittering Dunes:

  • Green Spiky-Leafed Plant? – 3
  • Flexing Spider-like Thing? – 1
  • Sweet Brown Raisin Things – 4

Quest Task: Bring Gaston the food he requested.

Gaston’s Encampment

After hydrating, Gaston seems to be back to his “normal” self. Which means, he’s focused on just one thing, himself.

Gaston doesn’t pay any attention to your questions regarding the Jewel of time. He’s looking for a new lackey. Someone to sing his praises. He is the self-appointed ruler of this area he calls Gastonia after all.

Still not listening to anything you are saying, Gaston decides you need a Hero to fix… whatever it is that you need fixing. He’ll start at his encampment. And off he goes.

Searching for a Vault Key

Somehow in the convoluted, and sometimes rather funny, conversation you have with Gaston at his camp, you find out that Jafar has been talking with Gaston also.

Jafar wants Gaston to find a key to a vault filled with treasure. And incidentally, it also contains the Jewel of Time Jafar wants. To entice Gaston further, Gaston can keep all the treasure except the jewel.

Hmm, are you sensing a familiar theme here?

Anyway, since Gaston doesn’t seem too motivated to put in any effort, you decide to check his camp for any signs of the key. After which you may need to start wandering the dunes yourself if you want to find the key.

Quest Task: Talk to Gaston.

Quest Task: Look around the camp for clues to the vault key’s whereabouts – 3.

Not a Key

You don’t find any clues to the vault key in Gaston’s encampment, but you do find some interesting other items. Glue, paint, this looks like some sort of craft project. Something that Gaston immediately and emphatically denies.

Ah, there is obviously more to the story, but you’ll let that be for now.

Quest Task: Make sure your Inventory includes:

  • Paint
  • Glue
  • Coconut Husks

Quest Task: Show Gaston what you found.

Access The Wastes

Conversations with Gaston are never straight forward. After several more humorous twists and turns, your discussion uncovers that the vault key may be in The Wastes. That is where Gaston ended up after his shipwreck.

When Gaston left The Wastes, wandering the dunes and exploring further, Swirling Sands sprung up and blocked the way back. If you haven’t already done so, opening the path to The Wastes is your next priority.

Merlin once again can help. This area requires 4000 Mist to support your Hourglass magic before the path is clear.

Quest Task: Unlock access to the Wastes.

  • Search for Mist with your Hourglass or access the Dreamlight menu and investigate your new Mist Duties by pressing + (Switch controls)

Quest Task: Meet up with Gaston at his Shipwreck in the Wastes.

Pro Tip: Need more Mist? See our Gathering Mist – Eternity Isle Currency guide for some pointers.

Gaston’s Shipwreck

With the path to The Wastes open once again, you meet Gaston next to his Shipwreck. Gaston glances quickly around and declares the vault key is not here.

Quicksand Fishing

Clearly, you are going to have to do this on your own. You decide to check the nearby quicksand. Maybe the key fell in.

You don’t find the vault key in the quicksand, but you do find a Coconut LeFou. Okay…

Obviously, Gaston was getting a bit lonely wandering the dunes alone, although he certainly won’t admit it.

Quest Task: Search for the vault key in the Wastes — maybe if fell in the quicksand.

Quest Task: You found a LeFou… made of coconuts? Ask Gaston about your disturbing discovery.

Partial Success

After returning Coconut LeFou to Gaston, you head to the Plains to search for a vault key piece with your hourglass. It turns out that, not knowing what he had, Gaston threw a piece of the vault key there.

Now that you know where to look, it doesn’t take your Royal Hourglass long to find the Scarab piece. You decide to check in with Jafar. Getting information from him is far easier than trying to get it from Gaston.

Quest Task: Search for the Desert Scarab Piece in the Plains using the Hourglass.

The Search Continues

Jafar is indeed more forthcoming with information, at least he is now that you’ve already found out a lot about the vault key. It’s good background information, but you still need to find the rest of the key.

Jafar leaves you with the suggestion to include the Wild Tangle in your search.

Before you leave the Plains, though, you decide to check in with Gaston and “LeFou”. Perhaps he wants to join you on the next stretch of the search. Besides, if nothing else Gaston is definitely entertaining.

But no, Gaston has more manly things to do right now, so it appears you’re on your own.

The Vault Key search continues…
